2009 ASID Annual Meeting - Intermountain Chapter - Sun Valley
Each year BYU-I Interior Design students enjoy a day trip to the Idaho resort town of Sun Valley to attend the Annual ASID Intermountain Conference. The conference provides a great way for students to learn more about the industry, attend seminars, mingle with vendors, and network with regional industry professionals. This year we were favored to hear Angela Merola and Sam Allen deliver animated presentations on creating good client relationships. They gave excellent pointers on creating trust and reading body language—skills crucial to selling one’s design in the business realm of the interior design industry. John Troxell, Director of Design at Wood-Mode, Inc., was the dinner keynote speaker and educated us on upcoming design and color trends.
Ten BYU-I students submitted amazing projects in the Student Design Competition. We were pleased to have one of our own, senior Stuart Beal, win the competition and a $200 gift certificate with his incredible Passive Solar/Barrier-Free/Sustainable project.
Additionally, students were able to be inspired by the rustic grandeur of the resort town, including touring the beautiful Sun Valley Catholic church. The recently-built church boasts beautiful design features, including suede-covered walls, solid woodwork and exposed trusses, elegant stained glass, and a magnificent chandelier composed of fiber optics and glass.
Once again, this year’s Sun Valley trip proved to be a memorable and educational experience for all.
